Visual and Geometric Computing
Brief overview of the research field
This research field is very practical and multifaceted. Examples range from the filtering of individual images and videos, to the true-to-life representation of complex virtual game figures, through to pedestrian recognition in a driver assistance system. Along with the necessary mathematical descriptions, novel types of hardware such as special cameras, 3D scanners, or VR goggles come into play.
The master’s degree in visual computing has its main focus in this area. With its own research groups in the computer science faculty, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, the Intel VCI and the Cluster of Excellence MMCI, this research field is well established in Saarbrücken.
