A large number of teaching assistantships are available at Saarbrücken Computer Science, providing not only money but also credit points towards your degree. Excellent students can receive scholarships. The Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science grants Ph.D. scholarships starting right after your B.Sc. degree. Last but not least, in Saarbrücken you can also attend courses and labs during the term breaks, a great opportunity to gain time and flexibility in your studies.

More than meets the eye

Computer science alone is too specialized for you? We also offer programs in Bioinformatics and Embedded Systems, as well as a multitude of minor subjects that you can combine with computer science. On the menu are areas such as Mathematics, Information Sciences, Medical Technology, Physics, and even subjects as far-reaching as Music and Psychology. At the M.Sc. level, an interdisciplinary Master’s in Visual Computing program is also in place.

In English, please!

Beginning with the fifth semester of our Bachelor’s program, all lectures are held in English; the M.Sc. program is entirely in English. In Saarbrücken, you will find students from all across the globe, including your home country. English is the standard language of communication in our international research groups as well. Top Career Opportunities

Science, industry, or even a start-up company?

Our two international graduate schools open the way to science:

At the “Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science”, students can begin their doctoral studies as soon as they have completed their bachelor’s degree. The structured program offers flexible entry, a wide range of course offerings, and access to a variety of research fields. And of course there is a stipend, so that students can concentrate fully on their doctoral examinations.

The “International Max Planck Research School for Computer Science” is a joint graduate program of the Max Planck Institutes and the university. Here as well, students are offered a first-class education under excellent research conditions.

Numerous collaborations offer an excellent springboard into the economy:

From the finance sector or the automotive industry, through space programs or medical applications, to entertainment and business consulting: our graduates are in high demand nationally and internationally as developers, optimizers, security experts, data analysts, or language processing specialists.

With the help of the IT-Incubator, another option may be to market an idea or discovery that arises during one’s studies, or to start a small business. Thanks to numerous support, advice and mentoring options, the university has even been distinguished as an EXIST-Gründerhochschule (Start-up University).

The Max Planck Institutes

The Max Planck Institute for Computer Science and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems are among the best addresses worldwide for researchers interested in basic research in computer science. They are also among the most desirable employers. Both research institutes are located on the Saarbrücken campus, right next to the computer science department. Their directors and researchers collaborate intensively with the university both in research and teaching.

The German Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI)

The German Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) is the leading German research institute in the field of innovative software technology and is strongly connected with the university and its programs. This institute is also located on the Saarbrücken university campus. Experience at DFKI is an excellent career booster.
