Further intensifying cooperation between the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saarland University and the partnered non-university computer science research institutions in Saarland \u2013 that is the aim of the “Saarland University Associate Fellowship”. The faculty has now appointed the first six scientists to the rank of “Fellows”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The “Saarland University Associate Fellowship” offers scientists from non-university research institutions on campus the opportunity to become an official member of Saarland University. “The trusting and close cooperation on an equal footing with the research institutes at the Saarland Informatics Campus has been common practice for decades and is a key factor in the success of our research site. With the new fellowship, we are intensifying this cooperation,\u201d says Professor J\u00fcrgen Steimle, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saarland University<\/p>\n

This includes granting the fellows the right to supervise doctoral theses in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. They can also become more involved in teaching and in the external presentation of the site. “In doing so, we are further developing the scientific profile of the computer science department and making Saarland University and the Saarland Informatics Campus even more attractive for scientists and students from Germany and abroad,” adds J\u00fcrgen Steimle.<\/p>\n

The partner institutes at the Saarland Informatics Campus welcome the introduction of the “Saarland University Associate Fellowship”. Interest was correspondingly high. In the first round, six scientists were appointed as Fellows. These are:<\/p>\n

-Vahid Babaei, Research Group Leader “Artificial Intelligence Aided Design and Manufacturing”, Max Planck Institute for Informatics<\/p>\n

-Martin Bromberger, Senior Researcher for “Combination of Theories and Arithmetic Reasoning”, Max Planck Institute for Informatics<\/p>\n

-Tobias Fiebig, Senior Researcher for “Security, Privacy, Infrastructure operation, Sustainability, Human Factors”, Max Planck Institute for Informatics<\/p>\n

-Jan-Eric Lenssen, Research Group Leader “Geometric Representation Learning”, Max Planck Institute for Informatics<\/p>\n

-Gurprit Singh, Research Group Leader “Sampling and Rendering”, Max Planck Institute for Informatics<\/p>\n

-Mariya Toneva, Research Group Leader “Bridging AI and Neuroscience”, Max Planck Institute for Software Systems<\/p>\n

Background Saarland Informatics Campus:
\n<\/strong>900 scientists (including 400 PhD students) and approx. 2500 students from more than 80 nations make the Saarland Informatics Campus (SIC) one of the leading locations for computer science in Germany and Europe. Four world-renowned research institutes, namely the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems,\u00a0 and the Center for Bioinformatics along with\u00a0 Saarland University and its three departments and 24 degree programs, together\u00a0 cover the entire spectrum of computer science.<\/p>\n
