To kick off the upcoming semester, Saarbr\u00fccken Computer Science always organizes a welcome event at the beginning of the semester to greet new and returning students at the university. On this occasion, the student representatives of the computer science courses present their “Busy Beaver Award”, which honors lecturers who have shown particular commitment to teaching in the previous semester. <\/strong><\/p>\n

many students took part in the kick-off event for the 2024 summer semester in the G\u00fcnter-Hotz-H\u00f6rsaal at Saarland University. One highlight of the kick-off event was once again the presentation of the “Busy Beaver Awards” by the Computer Science Students\u2019 Representative Council. The following courses of the winter semester 2023\/24 were awarded: In the category “Base Lectures”, the award goes to the lecture “Foundations of Cybersecurity” by Dr. Ben Stock<\/strong>. This time, two courses were honored in the “Core and Advanced Lectures” category: Dr. Pascal Peter<\/strong> with the course “Differential Equations in Image Processing and Computer Vision”, and Dr. Sven Bugiel<\/strong> for the lecture “Mobile Security” a block course from the winter semester 22\/23. Dr. Franziska Boenisch<\/strong> was awarded in the category \u201e(Pro)Seminars\u201c for her course “Differential Privacy: Mathematical Foundations and Applications in Machine Learning “. As she was unable to attend the kick-off event herself, Professor Jilles Vreeken accepted the award on her behalf and expressed her thanks.<\/p>\n

At the end of the introductory event, there was held a get-together where the participants kicked off the new semester in a relaxed atmosphere. The kick-off event was organized by the Department of Computer Science at Saarland University.<\/p>\n

Background Saarland Informatics Campus:
\n<\/strong>900 scientists (including 400 PhD students) and approx. 2500 students from more than 80 nations make the Saarland Informatics Campus (SIC) one of the leading locations for computer science in Germany and Europe. Four world-renowned research institutes, namely the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems,\u00a0 and the Center for Bioinformatics along with\u00a0 Saarland University and its three departments and 24 degree programs, together\u00a0 cover the entire spectrum of computer science.<\/p>\n
