While the social network Facebook is working on introducing its own money currency, the scientific journal Nature reports that an artificial intelligence can now compete with several poker players. Last week’s headlines show how IT applications permeate everyday life. This is why the Saarland State Chancellery and the Competence Center Computer Science Saarland are awarding journalistic, German-language articles in the three categories “Text”, “Audio” and “Video and Multimedia” with the Journalist Prize for Computer Science and 5000 euros. The closing date for entries is 15 September 2019. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Journalist Award for Computer Science aims to inform the general public about current topics in computer science. Therefore, journalistic contributions published in German-language media are honored, and the research results of computer science and its applications are presented and communicated in a generally understandable way. In addition, entries are also worthy of an award that illustrate how much computer science shapes and influences everyday life. In addition, works are welcome that provide impetus for a socio-critical discussion of the possibilities and dangers of computer science. Therefore, all contributions published after September 3, 2018 are eligible for the competition. These can now be submitted under the following link:

Saarland Informatics Campus (SIC)<\/strong>
\nCirca 1,900 students from 81 nations study 18 computer science courses in three established disciplines at the Saarland Informatics Campus (SIC) at Saarland University. More than 800 scientists research the entire spectrum of computer science topics in two graduate schools and six internationally renowned research institutes. The SIC cooperates with international corporations such as Google, Microsoft and Facebook, promotes numerous business start-ups with the IT Incubator and thus acts as a driver for further settlements of industry and research and development laboratories.<\/p>\n
