50 Years Informatics
Saarland University
May 25–26 | 2019

Almost 50 years ago, in 1969, the Computer Science academic program was established at Saarland University and Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Günter Hotz became the first full professor for Computer Science (and Applied Mathematics) in Saarbrücken. This was the beginning of a remarkable success story which has led to the Saarland Informatics Campus (SIC) today.

The registration for all events besides the Symposium is not possible any more. Registration for the symposium is still possible by sending an Email until May 22 to register@sic50. Due to the shortness of time until Saturday, May 25, we won't send confirmations for this.

Participants who have registered for the Brunch and/or the concert on Sunday morning should have provided that the fee has been transferred until Monday, May 20. Otherwise their reservation for those events has been cancelled.

Those participants who have registered for the evening event at the "Alte Schmelz", should have got a confirmation email on Friday, May 10. Otherwise contact register@sic50 immediately.

We will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday with a scientific symposium on the Saarland University campus followed by a dinner in the evening at the "Alte Schmelz" in St. Ingbert. You can also take advantage of Saarland University’s concurrent open house day and learn about scientific highlights at SIC.

For those of our guests with more time, the program on Sunday morning features a brunch and a concert with the "Deutsche Radio Philharmonie", organized by the "Musikfestspiele Saar" in Saarbrücken’s congress hall, a great opportunity to mingle with old friends and former colleagues.

09:30 Brunch at "Manin"

Faktoreistraße 4, 66111 Saarbrücken
Fee EUR 25 (including all non-alcoholic beverages)

We start with a healthy, hearty brunch on the second day of the celebrations. Manin, a child-friendly, elegant eatery, serves cakes as well as Italian and German dishes.

11:00 Concert: "Heimspiel und Tanz" at the "Congress Hall" in cooperation with the Saarland International Music Festival

Hafenstraße 12, Saarbrücken
Fee EUR 35

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Department of Computer Science at Saarland University, the German Radio Philharmonic under its Finnish conductor Pietari Inkinen will play a program that could not be more European: The "Symphonie brève" by Louis Théodore Gouvy, who was born on 3 July 1819 in today‘s Saarbrücken-Schafbrücke followed by the "Clarinet Concerto" by Kimmo Hakola.

The finale will reach its brilliant conclusion with Igor Stravinsky‘s "Sacre du printemps", a piece that premiered in Paris 1913 and caused general irritation with its strange, raw and archaic melodies and rhythms before it became one of the classics in concert programs.

12:30 Drinks and Goodbyes

Auf Wiedersehen! We cap off the concert in the nearby Mercure Hotel with a glass of Cremant and a bite to eat.

14:00 Departure
