Software and Hardware Systems
Brief overview of the research field
The demand for ever newer hardware and software is always growing; at the same time, their development becomes increasingly complex. Thus, on many levels, new methods are constantly needed in order to meet these demands. In this research, software aspects include, for example, work on new programming languages, continuous questioning of design and development processes, and the systematic testing of products. In the case of hardware systems, there are questions on improving efficiency, on production, on new protocols, and on the possibility of proving correct behavior.
In Saarbrücken the Embedded Systems degree program represents an interface discipline within this research field. Several groups in the Department of Computer Science and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems have their focus on this area.
