Master’s students at Saarland University give the subjects of mathematics and computer science top grades
According to the CHE ranking of master’s degree programs published today, Saarland University is the leader in both subjects. The ranking is based on the evaluations of the local students. The Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) assesses these and divides the results into more than 20 criteria in order to enable students in particular to make a nationwide comparison when searching for a suitable degree program. Indicators such as number of students and international orientation are also listed. The current rankings have now been published exclusively in the Zeit-Verlag publications “Zeit Campus” and “Zeit Online”.
In mathematics, Saarland University is represented in the top group in the categories “International orientation” and “Degree completion in a reasonable amount of time”, while computer science is among the best in seven categories. Like mathematics, it scores high in the category “International Orientation” and also receives top marks in the categories “General Study Situation”, “Course Offerings”, “Study Organization”, “Libraries” and “IT Equipment”. Even in the “Exams” category, computer science students voted Saarland University’s computer science department into the top group. In particular, they praised the “opportunities to repeat examinations”, which the department always makes possible.
It is less surprising that computer science in Saarbrücken is also among the best when it comes to “scientific relevance”. The “Saarland Informatics Campus” includes the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, the Max Planck Institutes for Computer Science and Software Systems, the Center for Bioinformatics and the Cluster of Excellence for Multimodal Computing and Interaction. The Helmholtz Center for IT Security (CISPA) is also located in the immediate vicinity. All scientists employed at the institutes not only conduct research on the Saarland Informatics Campus, but also teach their field of research.
