Data Science
Brief overview of the research field
What knowledge can be derived from enormous amounts of data? This research field considers this and similar questions on the acquisition, distribution, processing and evaluation of information. It ranges from the development of models for the structuring of raw data, to the efficient answering of search queries, to the analysis of relationships in very large databases. The applications are just as diverse. In business, it is vital to ensure that existing data will not be lost. Networks of all kinds can be better visualized, and medical data can be used more efficiently.
This research area is represented by one group each in the Department of Computer Science, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems, the DFKI and the Cluster of Excellence MMCI.
