The Centre for Higher Education (Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung CHE) today published its ranking for the master’s programs in computer science, mathematics and physics. Computer Science at Saarland University reaches the top group in several categories. The ranking is based on student evaluations. For the first time, a special survey was conducted to inquire about studying during the Corona pandemic. The results show that computer science master’s students at Saarland University are very satisfied with their study situation despite the difficult conditions caused by Corona.

The computer science department ranks in the top group in five categories. These are: „Courses offered”, “Overall study situation”, “Publications per academic”, “Third party funds per academic” and “Doctorates per professor”. With regard to the courses offered, the students particularly praised the international orientation. In addition, Saarbrücken Computer Science also received excellent ratings in the category „study organisation”.

In the special survey, computer science at Saarland University scores well. The students gave top marks to digital teaching in particular – both the variety of digital teaching formats and the technical framework conditions for digital teaching formats and the possibilities for taking exams were positively received by the students.

Students of computer science at Saarland University benefit in teaching and research through the cooperation of the University with its partner institutes at Saarland Informatics Campus. In addition to Saarland University with 24 degree programs and the three networked departments of Computer Science, Mathematics and „Language Science and Language Technology”, five globally renowned research institutes, namely the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems, the Center for Bioinformatics and the research cluster for “Multimodal Computing and Interaction” cover the entire range of topics in computer science on the campus. In addition, the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security is located in the immediate vicinity and is also intertwined with the computer science location through joint professorships.
