Artifical Intelligence and Machine Learning (Foundations and Application)
Brief overview of the research field
This area deals with the study and automated simulation of intelligent behavior. One goal is to drive independent learning, so that computers can automatically solve problems such as pattern recognition, or simulate a certain behavior. The research finds practical applications in driver assistance systems, in disaster prevention training and in the design of industrial production processes. The findings also form the basis for a variety of other computer science disciplines, such as databases, robotics, human-computer interaction and computer games.
In Saarbrücken, research in this area is the DFKI’s central focus. However, groups within the Department of Computer Science and the Cluster of Excellence MMCI are also active in this field.
