“How I took over a company with 130 employees and learned to love data retention”, explains Julian Backes, Managing Director of the software house “DIaLOGIKa”, next Wednesday, 6.11.2019, from 16:15, in lecture hall 1 (building E1.3).

Julian Backes founded a start-up 7 years ago at Saarland University with two fellow students from his studies – today he is owner and managing director of DIaLOGIKa, a Saarland software company with 130 employees that has been supplying large customers such as the European Commission or the Federal Network Agency with tailor-made software for over 35 years.

As a student of himself and a major opponent of any form of state surveillance, Julian is today responsible for the development of software for official requests for information, which – depending on the current legal situation – can also include data retention.

Julian Backes will tell all interested parties in an exciting lecture what it feels like to go through a development from 0 to 100, what it’s like to be on the “other side”, and how to develop any software at all that has to be able to store the small amount of 10 billion data records a day in a way that they can be found and evaluated, and to delete them again in such a way that they cannot be reconstructed in parts.
