Two world renowned computer science conferences were to take place in Saarland in July: the “ACM/IEEE Symposium on Logic in Computer Science” and the “International Colloquium on Automata, Languages and Programming”. Due to the Corona Pandemic, however, the events were moved to a digital format. Nonetheless, about 1200 scientists from all over the world have registered to attend. The virtual conferences were hosted by the Saarland Informatics Campus at Saarland University.
This year, the Ursula Hill-Samelson Teacher Prize of the Saarbrücken Computer Science goes to the Bavarian computer science teacher Albert Wiedemann. The prize, which is funded with 2500 Euros, is for teachers who have made a special contribution to the subject of computer science. Since 2015, the award has been sponsored by Saarbrücken Computer Science and been awarded by the Verband zur Förderung des MINT-Unterrichts (MNU).

During the Saarbrücken Research Days on Computer Science, young computer science talents from all over Germany have the opportunity to take a first look at computer science studies and to get to the bottom of current research questions together with students and scientists from Saarland University and the computer science institutes located at the university. Due to the corona pandemic, the „Saarbrücker Forschungstage” were moved to the virtual world this year.
At the virtual open day, Saarland University presents its range of academic programmes and numerous research topics. This year, however, the event will take place online instead of on the university campus – courses will be presented in video presentations and prospective students can talk with professors via live-chat and ask everything they want to know about the study-programme of their choice.
